It’s winter ladies! That Canadian wind, snow, and below -20 temperatures are at war with your hair and skin. To silk up my face, hands, and hair up I mixed together a bit of honey Lovin’. I started out with honey, added oatmeal, and topped it off with olive oil.

To help mix everything together, I filled up my sink with some hot water and set my bowl in the water for a bit. Now the fun and messy part! Wearing an old shirt I brought the bowl into the bathroom and flipped my head over the tub. First I packed some on to my face, and then took to massaging it into my hair and scalp. After I wrapped up my hair in a towel, I let it set for 15 minutes. While I waited I massage what’s left of the mix in my hands and let it set. Than after 15 minutes rinsed everything out (you may need to use shampoo to get the greasy look out of your hair).

Ingredients

– 2 spoons of Honey (It’s a natural antiseptic. It also moisturizes and helps maintains skins elasticity.)

– 3 spoons of Oatmeal (It texture gently removes dead skin cells. It seals in moisture with a layer of colloidal that’s left on the skin. Also is a source of vitamin E.)

– 3 or 4 spoons of Olive Oil (It re-hydrates and moisturizes. Helps inflamed skin.)

It’s a taste of heaven, a dark delicious devil in disguise, and my way of life. I can’t help it, I love the richness of it! Of course street price of a cup of the stuff is ridiculous, it’s about the same as the drugs you can buy off the guy standing outside the coffee place. So I have been making coffee, lattes, and espressos for the past 6 years. Over that time I expanded my palate to include experimenting and perfecting iced coffee, Chai Tea, mocha lattes (using a hot chocolate mix). Just recently I decided to step it up a level and make my own syrups, some with no preservatives and additives. I took a simple recipe mixing sugar with water boiling and adding my desired flavour. I made 4 of the classics Chocolate, Vanilla, Cinnamon, and Caramel. I still needed to work on my Caramel recipe, but the others turned out tasty.

Basic recipe

-1/2 cup of water

-1/2 cup of cane sugar

-boil both together

For Cinnamon Syrup

Add 3 cinnamon sticks
For Vanilla Syrup

Add Vanilla bean

-Turn off heat and let it sit, cool, & stir.

For Chocolate Syrup follow the same directions but change ingredient measurements.

-1/2 cup water

-1/4 cup cane sugar

-1/3 cup cocoa powder

Quick, Easy, delicious!

{February 6, 2011}   French Women and their Mystique

I am a huge fan of other cultures. I love tasting their food, experiencing their traditions, and people watching while I visit their countries. Other cultures are so fascinating! Sometimes though I wonder, What do they think of us when they visit Canada? What foods do they enjoy trying here, do they find the things we do and talk about interesting and curious?

That’s why I loved reading this book! What French Women Know, by Debra Ollivier. She offers an enlightening perspective of how the French view American culture. Of course being a Canadian is different then being an American when you compare our governments and such, but culturally we have many similarities. As little children we all played, does he love me, does he love me not. We all gather together for spa nights with the girls and watch sports games on a boys night out. We go on dates, and if all goes well the relationship turns into going steady.
It’s strange to think the French do not have these traditions. They have traditions of their own. They play, He loves me a little, A lot, Passionately, Madly, Not at all. They mix it up at dinner parties separating the couples and seating each guest beside someone different of the opposite sex. They eat delicious cheese and drink savory wine with class. They do things differently, sassy, and sexy.
If you get a chance, read this book, it will take you on a trip across the pond to a cafe beside the Eiffel Tower.

The 50 book challenge

I am head deep into the challenge. Today I finished book number 4. Not bad, if I do say so myself being that it is only the 3rd week in the month. I figure if I average about four books a month, with a few extra here and there, I’ll make the challenge with no problems.
My list so far…

1- The half brother by Kenneth Oppel
2 – The Sentimentalist by Johanna Skibsrud
3 – Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
And the latest one, book number 4 Library of the dead by Glenn Cooper

Library of the dead was a thriller, packed with mystique and adventure. Starting out in an ancient abbey the story carries into the present as an FBI case mixes into the legend of Area 51. How can a book not be awesome with all those plot ideas put into together. Of course with a plot this action packed it took me no time at all to read. I just couldn’t put it down until I reached the last page.

As I continue the challenge I am obviously going to include Glenn Cooper’s other novels.
Wish me luck! I only have 46 to go.
